  1. ---- How and why should I register MicroCook?
  2.  
  3.      If you like MicroCook and plan to use it past the 30 days
  4. evaluation period, you must register it. Registering MicroCook
  5. (or any other Shareware) is the only way you can legally use the
  6. program past this evaluation period. The Shareware principle is
  7. based on trust. If you like it and use it, you pay for it. Not
  8. too much to ask for?
  9.  
  10.      It's only $15 to register MicroCook, and for an additional
  11. $5 you can get an optional disk with 3,317 recipes!
  12.  
  13.      Registered users of the MicroCook database program will
  14. receive a KEY file that also will keep future versions of
  15. MicroCook, both DOS & Windows, registered for several years  
  16. before it expire. At that time you'll have the option to upgrade
  17. for a small fee (less than full registration). See the 
  18. documentation included with the version that "expired" your KEY 
  19. file for details. Also unlimited technical support for as long as 
  20. you own a registered version of MicroCook. The KEY file will also 
  21. print your name, or the name of someone you give MicroCook to as 
  22. a gift, on the bottom line of the monitor screen. Un-registered 
  23. users that have questions during the evaluation period can
  24. contact me by mail, or on America On Line (TM), CompuServe (TM)
  25. or to norski@execpc.com on the Internet. And of course,
  26. registered users can also make use of these contacts.

  28.      When you register you will receive a small "KEY file" with
  29. the serial number and your name. Place this file in the SAME
  30. directory as MCOOK.EXE. Please keep a copy of the Key file in a
  31. safe place. This file is for YOU only, and must NOT be
  32. distributed with any copies you give to your friends or upload to
  33. BBS's (which you are encouraged to do). The KEY disables all the
  34. "Please Register!" messages and the time delayed opening and 
  35. exit screens so the program will start running without delay. I
  36. added these "features" as reminders to unregistered users, not to
  37. harass them. The unregistered version and the registered version 
  38. are identical in functions, except for these messages.
  39.      If your KEY file gets lost or damaged, send me a letter with
  40. an approximate date when you registered, to which name it was
  41. registered, and a check for $5.00 for handle shipping & handling. 
  42. I'll then mail you a disk back a copy of the KEY file. If you can
  43. receive the Serial and Control number via e-mail, a new number is
  44. FREE. But I won't change the name of the user:)

  46.      Also included with the registered copy of MicroCook are
  47. about 2,000 recipes, ready to be loaded into MicroCook. And just
  48. incase your hard disk mess up your recipe database, I have
  49. written a small program that will extract as many recipes as
  50. possible from the damaged MicroCook recipe database, and save
  51. them to a new database. MCDBFIX.EXE is another utility just for
  52. the registered user.

  54.      You can receive your Serial Number and Control number for
  55. the KEY file via e-mail if you have a e-mail address. I'll send
  56. it as e-mail as soon as either CompuServe or PsL notify me that
  57. you have registered, or as soon as I receive a check or money
  58. order from you. This will remove the "Please register" messages a
  59. little faster. Instructions on how to create the KEY file will be
  60. included in the e-mail.

  62.      If you have a lot of recipes in formats other than
  63. Meal-Master, MasterCook, or Edna's Cookbook that you would like
  64. to convert to MicroCook, please send an e-mail, call or write. I
  65. plan to add more conversions in the next version of MicroCook so
  66. I would like to learn more about the different PC cookbook
  67. formats that are in use. But please do NOT ask about QBOOK's
  68. ASCII recipes. It has a very free-form format, and is very hard
  69. to figure out correctly. I have gone through 100's of QBOOK
  70. recipes from various sources, and non are formatted the same way.

  72.      To register by mail, fill out the registration editor in
  73. MicroCook (Print menu), and print out the filled out form. You
  74. can also use the REGISTER program from the DOS prompt, or RUN it
  75. from Windows. Internet users with a credit card can also register
  76. at Albert's Ambry. See ALBERTS.TXT. CompuServe users can register
  77. through Software Registration (GO SWREG), see SWREG.TXT for
  78. details. And if your choice is credit card and you don't have
  79. Internet access, see the CREDIT.TXT file. These files can also be
  80. printed from MicroCook. You also need to use the REGISTER program
  81. to create the KEY file if you received it as e-mail.
